Membrain Festival 2017
Next week I’ll be making my Membrain Festival debut, a fresh festival returning to Croatia for it’s second edition, showcasing underground bass music artists from across Europe.
Membrain Festival started last summer in Šibenik and is coming back this year to the beautiful location of Minerska bay, bringing the best of the underground scene once again. The festival takes place in a disused military base looking onto a beach and surrounded by forests – an ideal setting to showcase more than 50 artists playing this year. The festival takes place from the 10-13th of August, pushing bass weight from 3 different stage, celebrating Dubstep, Liquid, Dubstep, Dub, Global/Tropical and other genres of ‘bass culture’. I spoke to the top dog of Membrian; Davor Dedic, who lives in Amsterdam and works as a DJ and promoter, about what we can expect from the festival this year:
“Last year we successfully started in one of the most beautiful locations we have seen in the world. This is why we are coming back to Šibenik this year. We are continuing with the idea that Membrain gets recognized as a place where the audience from all over the world, connected and touched by bass music, can enjoy a combination of the atmosphere from known underground clubs mixed with relaxed Mediterranean climate; pure sunshine, the vast Adriatic Sea, cool, refreshing forests and well renowned Dalmatian gastronomical offer. This year we are planning on bringing the festival to a higher level especially in the marketing sense and expecting to welcome a higher volume of attendees from Europe and ex-Yu countries.”
The headline lineup features names from the UK, Netherlands, and other European countries. First up Hydro, DnB headliner, who has influenced many and released on countless DnB labels will be making his debut appearance, check out one of his classic rollers here:
Returning to Membrain after a great performance last year are Dutch champions of liquid DnB are NCT and T-Sugah. Next up, representing the deeper sound of Dubstep is Sepia who has just returned from a tour in the USA.
Hosting all stages will be MC Toast, internationally known for his work with Youngsta. The biggest local DnB name Filip Motovunski will also be playing, celebrating his 10 years of success at Membrain Festival. Alongside the headliners are tons more DJs with individual sounds, including some representatives from the festivals well respected partnering labels and stations: 140 Ninja, Canopus Records, Boey Audio, Bassport FM, and more that can be found listed here on the Membrain site.
